If you’ve ever sung the praises of your favourite clothing brand after an outfit you had on received a complement, or recommended a fabulous restaurant or café to eat at, then you understand right here what word-of-mouth marketing is — and just how powerful it can be.
After you’ve mentioned said clothing brand and that awesome café…did anyone you spoke of this amazingness take you up on your recommendation?

This is absolutely one of the most inexpensive and drastically underestimated marketing channels in existence. This is word of mouth marketing.
Something totally gives you all the feels and wows you as a customer, you tell your friends, they tell their friends and so on and so forth.
You as the business owner have zero control over this, and, it may even in some cases be negative, but when done correctly a word of mouth strategy is the absolute GOLDEN NUGGET of your local area marketing and I LOVE this so so much.

Here’s how to use word-of-mouth strategy to your advantage.
Rather than you leaving your word of mouth strategy and marketing up to chance, create triggers so people want to talk about your brand. Think of this as your X Factor. These triggers are memorable experiences or feelings that make people want to talk about your business.
For example, when business owners join my membership, I send each and every one a welcome pack in the mail. Inside this is a specially designed pack just for you with a handwritten note from me. I’m extremely proud of what I’ve included in this welcome pack and those that join most definitely do not expect it.
Another example of my own word of mouth strategy that most people don’t know about, is those that join my webinars, which is the masterclass I teach in launch week, the week I open up the doors to the membership, go in the draw to win an EPIC Small Business Marketing Pack, designed and put together by me.
Every time I do this, it gets better and better. To give you a hint, the last Small Business Marketing Pack I carefully pieced together around 10 items including a Frank Green drink bottle, a ring light, plus other cool stuff that will help you as a small business.
This is memorable and gets people talking.
Another reason this works is because it feels good for me. I feel like I am giving more than I am taking. So when I teach the masterclass, those that attend are actually learning with zero investment in me. Then they have the opportunity to receive more and more. I love giving and it creates such an amazing energetic exchange at the same time. These are the people I want in my world and I can safely say, I have created the most epic community because of it.
Just before the Christmas just gone, I invited all the members inside the Superhero Marketing out for a Christmas brunch to celebrate one another, to get to know each other in person. Not only was this paid for by me, but I purchased each of them a beautiful bunch of flowers to show them how grateful I am that they chose to invest in me to learn and grow their business.
Those that could not make it, that live interstate (I’m based in South Australia) I sent them a bottle of delicious Prosecco to celebrate such an amazing year.
These are the things that matter.
These are the things that people remember.
It’s not what you said, it’s how you made them feel that is the most powerful word of mouth strategy of them all.
By developing a word-of-mouth strategy, it allows you to do or create something unique.
I want you to think about how you can stand out in a crowd, whether it’s with your service, greeting or gift, this could prove to be beneficial in changing the game for you.
Random acts of kindness, overdelivering and being lovely are all great, but what could you do on top of that to really create those EPIC memorable experiences for your paying clients.
