Marketing your business: Why it’s important to have a plan?
Hello you business owner, I see you. BUT you can’t just rely on word-of-mouth or hope that your customers will find you. Eventually this becomes saturated, you get this far doing this and THEN, you need to be proactive and market your business.
There are many different ways to market your business, but not all of them are created equal. You need to consider what your goals actually are, your target audience, and what kind of message you want to send. Otherwise, you could end up wasting time and money on marketing strategies that don’t work. This is something I teach my members inside of Superhero Marketing.
The good news is that there are plenty of effective business marketing strategies out there. It’s just a matter of finding the right ones for your business.
I really wanted to use this podcast episode to share with you, 10 business marketing strategies that you can use to reach your target market and grow your business:
1. Your grand plan
Why it’s important to have a plan?
While some businesses are content to simply put out ads and hope for the best, smart business owners understand the importance of marketing their business in a more strategic way. A well-crafted marketing plan can be the difference between a business that flounders and one that flourishes. By taking the time to develop a detailed plan, you can identify your target market, create messaging that resonates with your audience, and allocate your precious resources, because we’re all time poor and need to nurture our days in a way that maximizes our chances for success.
In today’s competitive business landscape, having a plan is no longer an option – it’s essential for anyone who wants to succeed.
2. Creating a need or a want
Whether you run a small business, like most of us do, OR a major corporation, marketing is essential to your success. Marketing is about you creating a need or want for your product or service.
To do this effectively, you need to have a good understanding of your target market and what they are looking for. Once you know this, you can develop a strategic marketing plan that will help you reach your target market and achieve your business goals. I don’t want you to get all confused by this though, don’t overthink it, it’s easier than you think. We tend to overcomplicate a lot of things as business owners…and I think we need to stop.
3. Delivering jam packed value
The number one thing you need to remember and ask yourself every time you go to touch anything relating to promoting your business is: Am I creating and delivering value to my audience, customers and clients?
Your marketing strategy, is the plan for how your business will create and deliver value to your customers. Remember, it’s all the in the value. Usually, your marketing will be a mix that include value around your service (or product), price, place, and promotion. (in techy marketing nerd terms – your 4 P’s). Remember: Value Value Value.
4. How to reach your target market
In order to create the life of your dreams, it’s super important for you to understand the “HOW” in being able to market your products/services to your specific target market! Your audience are following you because they love what you’re putting out there and want to see you do well and help them along the way.
In saying this, there are a number of ways to reach your target market, and the most effective approach will vary depending on the type of business and the products or services you offer. One really common approach is to use market research to identify your potential customers and then use marketing techniques such as advertising, promotions, and public relations to reach those customers.
The most common way however is to use my love of social media to reach a larger audience. Whichever method you choose, it’s important to make sure that your marketing messages are clear and that they align with your business goals. By taking the time to develop an effective marketing strategy, you can ensure that your business is able to reach its full potential.
5. DRUM ROLL – Social media
One of the most efficient and effective ways to connect with customers and promote your business. In fact, your social media platforms have become essential channels for businesses of all sizes. But with so many options available, it can be tough to know where to start. Luckily, here are some super simple steps you can follow to get the most out of social media marketing.
First, it’s important to understand your goals. What do you want to achieve with social media marketing? Do you want to increase brand awareness? Drive traffic to your website? Boost sales? Once you know what you want to accomplish, you can develop a strategy that aligns with your goals.
Next, it’s time to choose the right platform or platforms for your business. Not all social media platforms are created equal, so it’s important to select the ones that will work best for you. For example, if you’re looking to connect with customers on a personal level, Instagram or Facebook as you know are a good choice. If you want to share news and updates about your business, Twitter might be a better option. Once you’ve selected the platform or platforms that are right for you, it’s time to start creating content.
6. Measuring
Measuring the effectiveness of your business marketing
Strategic marketing is the process of planning, creating, and executing a marketing plan. It involves setting objectives, researching the market, developing strategies, and implementing and measuring the results. A well-designed strategic marketing plan can be a VERY powerful tool for your businesses. However, it is important to measure the effectiveness of your marketing efforts in order to ensure that you are getting the most bang for your buck.
Tracking your data and insights is imperative to not waste your hard earned $$$.
There are a number of ways to do this, but some common methods include surveys, customer interviews, focus groups, and data analysis. By taking the time to evaluate your marketing strategy, you can make sure that you are making the most of your marketing budget and achieving your desired results.
This is something I teach my students inside Superhero Marketing, my membership. I have developed a target and tracking spreadsheet that is perfect and easy for them to use and follow their wins every month. Tracking can be hard, especially when you look at the back end insights of your socials or website and glaze over. Let’s be honest, I am sure you have done this once or twice because you just don’t know what’s important and what you can let go of.
7. Habits
Marketing your business: Make it a Habit
Marketing is an essential part of any business, but it can be easy to let it fall by the wayside when day-to-day operations take will forever take precedence.
However, establishing marketing habits early on can help make marketing a regular part of your business routine. Start by setting aside a specific amount of time each week to focus on marketing tasks. This can be an hour, half an hour, or even 15 minutes—the important thing is to make it a regular appointment in your schedule. Once you make it a regular, you’ll get yourself into the routine and the time you spend will increase.
During your marketing time, brainstorm new marketing ideas, work on new campaigns, and review your marketing progress. By creating and making marketing a habit in your business, you can ensure that it gets the attention it deserves and in turn reap the rewards you know your business is ready to reap.
8. Flexibility
Strategic Marketing: Staying flexible
In today’s rapidly changing business environment, it is more important than ever for you to stay flexible in your marketing efforts. Gone are the days when businesses could develop a marketing plan and stick to it for years at a time. Instead, now be prepared to adjust and be nimble with your strategies on a regular basis in order to keep up with the competition.
This means that as a business owner you need to have a clear understanding of your target market and be able to quickly adapt your plans to reflect changes in customer needs and preferences. By staying flexible, you can 100% ensure your marketing efforts are always relevant and effective.
Flexibility is something we all need to practice as times are changing quicker and quicker in this space every single day.
9. Keep learning
If you want to stay ahead of the curve, you need to be a lifelong learner. Thankfully, there are more resources than ever before for those who want to learn just about anything when it comes to marketing your business and putting your best foot forward.
