Hello, my awesome soul inspired friends and welcome to another episode of The Hayley Osborne Show. I am so happy you’re here listening with me.
Today I’m going to be sharing with you 5 ways investing in a mentor will skyrocket your business, as well as share with you how much I’ve invested in my business so far and how I went about doing in in the early days, as opposed to now. How I make my decisions and how I knew it was the right fit at the time in the various things I’ve invested.
I think it’s really important for me to be transparent with you on a topic like this, especially if you are thinking of making an investment in your business, be it for the first time, or you’re looking to scale up because you’re ready and know you can only get so far with what you know but are really ready for big things. You know you want to put yourself past those 5k months, 10K months and beyond and you’re ready.
The reason I want to be transparent is because I wish, I knew what I knew now in my business when I started and if I can help you in anyway, then I would have done what I intended to do in this podcast and I’m good with that which makes me feel pretty darn good.
You would have heard of the common term: what got you here, won’t get you there? Well, this could not be more from the truth, and I am speaking from experience. Anyone who runs a business, or if you’re looking to take your side hustle to your full-time gig, you know…there is only so much you know right! And then you have to seek the other things out somehow, someway. New resources, new ways to upskill. It’s the only way to grow.
I cannot tell you how many ahhh haa moments I’ve had, especially over the last two years with the investments I’ve made in myself and my business. Learning new things to make me better along the way.
Usually, the most common one at the beginning is to get much better at your marketing, which includes your social media. Learning the tools, you need to add to your toolbox in order to successfully grow your business and upskill yourself, so you can become the bass ass business owner you know you’re capable of.
And, if you’re leaving your “day job” then this is something you want to be geared up for and ready with a steady flow of leads that turn into $$$ creating a gorgeous flow of more people knowing about you, trusting you and therefore buying from you.
Let me tell you, it’s such an abundant feeling when you feel like everything is finally working out, you’re in your flow and you’re doing all the things. But then…you know you need to do more; you know you need the parts and pieces in your business to move easier, the cogs need to be well oiled, in some way automated and you simply don’t know what you don’t know.
Firstly, I wanted to share with you the different sorts of ways you can invest in your business.
Short Course
Firstly, in the very beginning most of us will invest in a short course that provides a quick outcome. Something that’s a low bearing fruit and will get us from A to B very quickly.
Signature course
The second way is usually through a signature course. Something that lasts around 6-8 weeks and teaches you something new regarding your business or is a great way to learn from someone you have been watching for a while, however not 1:1 but in a group setting so you can get a feel for them and a taste of how they might be like to work with 1:1.
Ongoing membership
The third way you might take investing in your business to the next level is to become part of a membership. A membership usually consists of a monthly fee or an annual fee and you will be supported throughout the year in whatever type of membership this is. Normally within a membership prior to entering you will understand what your success path looks like and be nurtured through each part of the learning experience. This is usually as a group and the awesome perks to this is the additional things that come up throughout the year, guest speakers, VIP days and retreats. Another awesome part of being inside a membership is the collaborations and easy access you have to others that are in a similar spot in their business to you or are ahead of you and where you want to get to. The connections and ease of transaction memberships provide are amazing. As opposed to you reaching out to people cold turkey. Within a membership these people are accessible for you to pick their brains and have a commonality with. A gorgeous place to be.
A coach
Someone who’ll give you guidance and coach you to be the best version of yourself. If you’re struggling getting past certain blocks in your business, a coach will work with you to overcome these and smash through them. This is usually paid support
A mentor
Someone who’s already walked the talk and been on the path you’re travelling or a looking to take. This is someone who’ll give you all the tips and tricks and help you not make the mistakes of a newbie starting out in the area of expertise you are in. They’ve been there and done that and will fast track you to get to the desired outcome. They’ve already achieved the thing you want to achieve and will share with you their skills, expertise, and knowledge. Having a mentor can be paid or unpaid, depending on who you consider to be your mentor.
Everything I’ve mentioned above, I’ve invested in all of these different types.
In the early days of my business, just looking at where I invested, I did so much more in the short courses type of investment.
Things that would give me a quick win, to learn that one specific thing, and got me from A to B answering a question to my current need. Usually not that big of an investment either, because I was still finding my feet.
I’ve gone through and tallied up everything I’ve invested in my business to date and I was quiet surprised it wasn’t more. And then I thought about it and basically 10 months of 2021 was me getting the hang of being a new mum, so had I not been doing that, I would’ve invested a lot more last year, I’m sure of it.
So in the very beginning of my business, let’s just say from September 2018, which is when I started the business – 2019 inclusive, I invested $2345.00. This is just in upskilling myself. Nothing to do with systems, processes, or contractors.
Then in 2020 I started to figure out some stuff. I really got clear on my vision and my mission and what I wanted to achieve in my business, and I got a little more serious listening to podcasts, reading more books on business, being an entrepreneur and the mindset of a business owner in general.
I taught myself so many new and easy ways to do things just by listening to others stories through these mediums.
But, I quickly realised this wasn’t going to be enough to get me where I wanted to go. Which is when I invested more heavily. Some of this investment was in signature courses and workshops, while the other big investment was in a coach to work 1:1 with me, who was also a mentor. The two crossed over and it worked for what I needed personally in my business.
I did a lot of research into finding the right fit for me and it was by far the best decision I made in my business. Skyrocketing my growth like never before. I was totally ready.
So, all up, in 2020 I spent $21,396.00 on investing in upskilling myself and my business to learn new things.
At the time, did this make me feel uncomfortable? Hell yeah it did. Was it worth it? Every single penny.
Let’s skip 2021 as that was kinda a write off for the simple fact that I had a new baby to take care of and the business was now in a great place to operate at the level it got to. I had no time to make any investments in my business and I was ok with that. I used what I had learnt and applied it.
I think this is also super necessary with investing in the services of others to upskill yourself because at some point you must apply what you have learnt right! This is the important part. Putting into play everything that person has taught you, otherwise it would be a total waste.
Now 2022 is here and we’re only part way through. As I’m recording this it’s May 2022. So not quite halfway through and so far, I have already invested $18,698.00.
That is almost the total of what I did the previous year.
This business will become a 7-figure business. But I know, through the previous success I’ve had, that what got me here, won’t get me there.
I’m pumped for what the next few months hold for me, and I cannot absolutely wait to share it with you.
OK, so all up, after I worked it out, I’ve invested $42,440.00 in growing myself, upskilling myself to make myself a better business owner and better mentor and coach for you. The two go hand in hand as far as I’m concerned. I talk about how important it is in your business and I also demonstrate how important it is to walk the talk.
Having a mentor/coach however has been by far one of the best investments I’ve made in my business and will continue to make. Second to that for me is investing in a high-level group coaching program/mastermind.
I cannot tell you the benefits these things have and are having on my business.
Here are the 5 ways investing in a mentor skyrockets your business and how it can help you to do the same:
- So, the first way in which investing in a mentor skyrockets your success is the ability to shorten your learning curve. Which is the key to essentially get to where you want to go quicker. I have seen this over and over within my business. This podcast is a great example. There is no way I would have been able to get this podcast started which is something I have wanted to do for a few years before I started it, let alone start and launch it as quicky as I did, given the confidence to just get out there and take it! Offered the guidance, tech hacks and tools…the list goes on. This podcast is now opening up my world for me to appear as a guest on other podcasts which is such a great way to get in front of other amazing business owners’ audiences. I’ve since learnt even more hacks to get me from A-B quicker just by the momentum I’ve been creating for myself.
- Holds you accountable
- Helps you set high goals and makes decisions faster
- Opens doors and makes connections
- Boosts your confidence
That’s a lot of juicy goodness right there for you and I just loved talking about it.
I hope I’ve inspired you to make some actionable decisions in your business to fast track your results.
AND that, very much concludes this episode my lovely friends and thank you so much for listening.
