EP 49 – The 3 digital marketing trends for 2023

December 14, 2022

With 2023 fast approaching are you in or are you out? I say let’s embrace this new year with open arms and be all the way in as business owners. In today’s episode of the podcast, I chat about the 3 biggest digital marketing trends your business needs to be all over for 2023. Let’s go all in, do it well, be creative about it and win in our businesses.

So what will the digital marketing trends be for 2023? Because we all want to know what the next BIG thing will be, what should we be investing our time and money into? Today I’m going to share what I think and predict to be trending in the new year in the digital marketing space.

For starters I cannot even begin to say how crazy the topic of a new year is sounding. We are fast approaching 2023 and it feels crazy quick, but so good at the same time.

Let’s chat about what will be trending in the digital marketing space for 2023

So, what will digital marketing look like? Well, there’s always new programs, platforms and trends being introduced. It’s an ever evolving industry that if you blink, you’ll most likely miss the latest ‘THING’, and by the time you’ve explored whatever it is, bang, everyone is already onto the next thing.

But don’t let this scare you. Yes there’s so much to learn but I want you to be open to change, as a business owner change is inevitable and will always happen. You don’t change and be nimble, unfortunately you will get left behind sooner or later. In the world of business and marketing, you need to be adaptable to change. Things never stay the same.

To make things a little easier for you I’ve managed to sum up the top 3 trends that I will continue to boom in the new year.

So, let’s get stuck into it:

  1. More video content

Video content is becoming increasingly popular and is predicted to continue to grow in 2023. It’s a supper effective way to capture and hold people’s attention. And the best part is videos can be repurposed and used for so many things such as, reels, TikTok, your website, Facebook or Google ads and so much more. The fact is, we’re getting lazier as consumers and with video content being served to us, we don’t have to do anything. No scrolling, no tapping, no nothing. It just plays. Crazy right!

Videos are simply such a great way to communicate a message or story in a matter of seconds. Video can have music which creates an emotional response, which usually triggers an action. This is a business owners dream. Sounds simple right!

Consumers also no longer want to sit and watch 3–4-minute videos, we want things instantly, we want things fast and let’s face it…a short attention span. This is a known fact and a huge reason why apps like TikTok have become so popular, it’s all videos that are short and fun. We’re all about the smiles.

The reach videos are able to get in comparison to images is astronomical. For an example if you were to use a trending sound on your reel the views could reach thousands, which is awesome, unlike a still image. Don’t get me wrong, I think there is obviously a place for still images, but you need a mix. You need all the things.

2.  More personalised content

People are becoming tired of generic, one-size-fits-all content. In 2023, we can expect to see more businesses using personalisation techniques to create more relevant and engaging content. This could include things like creating unique content for different channels, sharing personal stories to really connect with your audience. Now this is super important as a business because people are nosy and want to know who is behind the brand to really build a personal connection with their audience.

Gone are the days of sharing content that isn’t allowing you to connect and engage with your audience. Creating your story and your brands tone of voice means getting personal, sharing stories, your wins, failures, your team, behind the scenes, all the things.

A way to think about it is, let’s say you’re looking for a new accountant, and you begin doing your research. The more information and insight you have on that accountant, the more likely to go with them, in comparison to the accountant who isn’t really marketing their business or sharing anything about themselves. When making a purchase decision I know from years of experience, this makes all of the difference.

Chatbots are growing in popularity and are predicted to play an even bigger role in marketing in 2023, but in a good way. They can be used for a variety of tasks, like answering customer questions, providing product information, and collecting feedback. Sounds creepy, but it can automate your life and automation is a goooooood thing. Saves you time to work on other needle moving things.

3. Continued growth/use of social media

Social media is still a powerful tool for marketing and is expected to grow even more in 2023. In particular expect to see changes to existing platforms such as Facebook and Instagram. You’ll notice these platforms are always changing with new features being introduced, this means trends change!

Social media is only one component of marketing, but as I’ve said before it’s FREE and at our fingertips so why wouldn’t you be using it? I like to think of social media as your one stop shop, because you can share content from videos to images, short clips, full length videos the variety ticks all the boxes.

Just take a moment and look back on how much we’ve seen social media evolve in the last 12 months, and it’s only going to become more advanced over time. As for business owners within the digital marketing space, it is a wasted opportunity to not be showing up online. I want to see your business thrive in the social space, and always remember, there’s room for everyone.

Marketing isn’t like it once was, traditional ways of doing things are no longer. What I love most about this, and something I encourage you to lean into, is having the opportunity to get super creative. The stage is yours and the world id your oyster so they say!

Now, it’s your turn!

I hope today’s episode has inspired you to get out there, start creating those videos, start sharing your story with your audience around storytelling, and take the time to understand the current digital marketing space and what’s trending.
