Hello my lovely friends and welcome to Episode 8 of The Hayley Osborne Show. This is the episode where I get straight into the juice of it all.
10 BIG reasons why you need to be marketing.
But before I get right into it, I want to preface this by saying it’s time for you to reclaim marketing your business as one of the key drivers of your business. No more sitting on the fence, wishing, hoping, and doing whatever you are sitting on your hands is not achieving. This is the moment to take action and get out there. We are still super early on in the year, so it’s important you don’t waste another second “thinking” about what it is you should be doing.
Time and time again I hear people say they wish they had more clients, or I’m just not attracting the right client…and even “I just need a plan on how I am going to increase the revenue of this business so I can start achieving my personal goals”
This last point is a big one, right? You’re probably nodding your head saying, “yes Hayley, that’s why I started my business in the first place”. We all have reasons as to why we start our businesses, and mostly it’s because you want to live the life you want, do things in your time, work to your rules, be free and have no glass ceiling when it comes to revenue. You want to see out your personal dreams not working for anyone else.
And so it begins, it’s time to reclaim marketing as a key driver of your business.
Firstly, marketing is for all businesses. In so many ways, marketing your business in 2022 is actually free. I say this a lot, if you ran a business 39 years ago (and as I am recording this episode in 2022)…there was no internet. There was only print media, TV or word of mouth. Not that many avenues right! Today the internet exists and the world (literally the entire world), is your oyster.
Secondly, without customers, your business wouldn’t survive. But, to attract customers, you need to understand the value of marketing and be marketing. Your target demographic are unlikely to come to your business or buy from you if they don’t know anything about you. This is the who, what, where, when, and why of your product or service and business.
Whether you’re a small, medium, or even a large business, you need marketing.
I want to start at the end and move to the beginning because I think it’s way easier to understand and if you know my way of working, I’m all about explaining things in the easiest way possible, taking out the jargon so you “get it” straight away.
You might want to write this down, or head over to my website to read today’s show notes if you’re driving or walking and don’t have a pen and paper handy.
Your business goals are the end result. Before we get to achieving those goals, we need a plan, a roadmap, and a pathway. A way to activate on these goals.
This is where a marketing strategy comes into place! AND this is where I step in to help you.
Let’s normalise the word “strategy” and really get into explaining it with ease, because this should be easy. Strategies OR your marketing strategy is where all the ideas live to build your business.
These then consist of the different channels and paths you intend to go down to achieve each of your goals. Almost think of it as an octopus with its many legs, and each of them is labelled something different with a little high five hand at the end when you tread the path you’ve laid out in order to get there.
Each of these activation elements help you create action and momentum to achieve your goals.
The marketing planning and strategy process as a cycle. It starts with reviewing the market, then establishing your target audience and creating strategies to engage them with your business.
After implementing, it’s important to test, measure and adjust for the next plan. What worked, what didn’t and what you could do differently the next time.
It should be completed annually, but even better if it’s done every 6 months.
Ok, so let’s get into the 10 reasons you should be marketing:
- By not marketing, it’s a wasted opportunity to reach new people.
- Marketing all year round is important, which is why having a plan creates a frictionless way to market. You do not want to be marketing, only when you have something to sell. You want to remain top of mind throughout the year so when your ideal client needs you, you’re the first thing they think of. For example, you’re a retail-based business so you really need to be marketing all year round, not just Christmas time when you are likely to have your biggest month in business.
- Marketing helps to build your businesses reputation as well as your reputation.
- Marketing helps you to build important relationships between your business and your current customers as well as your future potential customers.
- By marketing, you are essentially communicating. Marketing is your communication channel direct to your ideal future clients and current clients.
- This is a BIG one, marketing helps to boost your revenue, in turn your sales.
- If you are marketing, you are learning critical insights about your business you otherwise would not have. What works, what doesn’t. It’s the perfect way to test the market.
- Marketing helps your business to stay top of mind and helps your business always be around.
- Marketing assists you in creating new ideas and opportunities you may never had thought of, creating more revenue streams for your business. It’s that age old saying “you don’t know what you don’t know”. I get this all the time with my business. The second I work with a mentor or a coach or take up a new online course or program to learn something new, I have these light bulb moments of, WOW I didn’t know that, and WHY did I not do that sooner in my business. Do you ever have this? I bet you’re nodding your head.
- You are the CEO of your business and marketing helps you to make informed strategic decisions, usually where to spend it and where to save it.
I want to ask you this, how would it feel to:
- Have a clear strategy for what you want to achieve within your business?
- Know exactly WHERE to spend your money to get the best bang for your buck?
- Generate a steady flow of new leads that turn into customers?
These are all the big reasons you should be marketing.
A marketing strategy is for you if:
- You are running your business and are passionate about getting higher results
- Your business is ready to grow
- You want clarity on your next steps, and confidence to move forward in your business without the overwhelm.
So, to recap, 10 BIG reasons why you need to be marketing:
- So you don’t waste opportunities
- You do not want to be marketing, only when you have something to sell
- Builds your businesses reputation
- Helps you to build relationships
- It’s your communication channel
- It helps to boost your sales
- Helps you learn insights about your business
- Stay top of mind
- Assists you in creating new ideas and opportunities
- Helps you make strategic decisions.
I hope this episode has helped to motivate and inspire you to get organised and aligned across your marketing strategies and social media strategies to win this year.
