Hello and welcome to the podcast, you awesome human. I’m really glad that you’re here with me in your ears today for another episode of the Hayley Osborne Show. Welcome back, and whether you’re out for a walk, whether I hope you’re multitasking while you are listening to me, sitting between appointments, maybe with your earphones in, folding, washing, or listening while you are just having a little scroll, or doing some research. Thank you for choosing to spend a tiny bit of time of your day with me.
Today’s episode, drum roll! It’s been sitting in my notes for weeks because I think it’s going to be a very important and one of possibly the most important conversations that I’ve had on this podcast because I think there comes a point in every business owner and founder’s journey, where the business that got you right where you are right now is not going to get you right where you want to go in the future. Okay, your business has outgrown the version that built it. That’s okay. That’s a good thing. Okay, because it means that you are evolving. You’re growing, and it’s you know where it’s sitting is not going to be able to be where it needs to sit to get to where it needs to be next.
Do you understand what I’m saying? And I know it’s uncomfortable because we become attached to things, and I know that that happens for me as well, you know. When you’ve poured your heart and soul into something, but then realize you need to pivot because this business that I’m running right now does not look like it did when I started. Even the name, okay? I changed and I became so attached to it. It was really hard, but when I knew in my gut that it had to change. I just moved very fast, and I didn’t even look back.
I was just like, right, this has to happen. And I think part of that fuel at the time for me was, well, you know what?I’m about to give birth, and I don’t have a lot of time, so this has to be done now, or I’m never going to do it. And so I just got on with it, and just moved and shaked, and you know made appointments with the people that I needed to sat in you know long mentoring day sessions with my mentors to be able to help me to understand where I needed to move and I actually did that when I was pregnant too because I think it’s really important to acknowledge that you know you get to a point where what got you here isn’t going to get you there, and your business is, you know, aptly titled in today’s episode of the podcast has outgrown the version that built it, and that’s okay. And we become attached to messaging.
Yeah, I get it, but you, you know, you need to check yourself and find yourself when you say things out loud. Is that currently who I am and what I have to say and what I have to offer? Because as humans we grow fast. Okay, we are always absorbing new things every single day, and our trajectory. Because knowledge is power. That’s one of my most greatest values in this world. Is building my knowledge, and we grow like this. It’s really, really steep, and we just climb and run so fast up that hill. But then our business stays where it is.
And so, what my job is, and what I’ve found my job is, every single time I sit down and do a deep dive into somebody’s business, whether it be a social media strategy, a marketing strategy, or you know, it happens every single time we do a VIP day. Is that I need to realign and bring the business up to where you are because we evolve, and I think that you know the truth is that growth asks you to be able to let go, and that’s exactly what I want to talk about today. So, I was listening to an interview recently with Emma Green, and I love her. If you don’t know who she is, she is the co-founder of Good American with Khloe Kardashian.
She’s got a bunch of other multiple, I want to say billion-dollar businesses because that’s what she builds. And she said something that really stopped me. She said that the only thing that shouldn’t change in your business is your purpose and its principles. Everything else should. And then I paused and I realized it’s exactly what I’ve been living over the last few years. And if you follow me for a while, you’ll know that my purpose has never changed. Okay, so I help businesses grow. I help incredible people become like more visible, and you know, really, I help what is already a really good business of yours, or you know, if I’ve worked with you before, become a really great business.
That’s always been there, but the way I do it, that has changed enormously. Years ago, I would. Introduced myself as a marketing consultant, and then I became, you know, a marketing strategist, then a brand strategist. You know, like the wording has changed, and now I proudly say I’m a business strategist and a health brand expert, and I will stand behind that. No one’s come in and said, “Oh, you now get to crown yourself and be that person. No, it’s because that’s actually what I do, and I’ve taken the time to do the work to figure that out. Okay, marketing is simply one tool inside a much bigger strategy.
Okay, and if I kept introducing myself the same way that I did six years ago, oh my god, you know, not only would I be doing myself a huge disservice, but I’d be doing my audience a massive disservice too because then you’re not understanding really the depth of how far I go and how much. Whoa! I just hit the microphone because I like to talk with my hands a lot. So yeah, the depth of how far I go, and that means the depth of how much I can actually help you. Okay, so I think business owners definitely confuse like being consistent with staying the same. That’s not true. It’s different, and I think that you know consistency means staying true to your values, 100% Okay, but it doesn’t mean freezing your business in time. Okay, it you you evolve your business evolves. You should evolve. Your business should evolve at the same time.
Your clients should evolve. Your offers should evolve. Okay, and you know what happens because of all of that is your confidence evolves, and then you’ve got the confidence to be able to put the crown on and be like, “Huh, I’m now this person. Yes, I am the CEO of my business and my world, and I do have really important job to do in my business, and if nothing changes, then nothing grows, and that’s just the reality of it. And I think about the version of you that started your business. Were you confident? Probably not. You know, did you know everything? Definitely not. But did you have enough gumption and a little bit of crazy to want to start your own business.
I was talking to a friend the other day, and she’s probably listening to this episode. But we were saying, like, to be able to run a successful business, you need to have a little bit of crazy because it’s not easy. It is the hardest thing. But you acknowledge that you don’t know everything and that you’re willing to learn, and you know, did like your experience was it the same when you started as opposed to what it is now? Mine definitely wasn’t okay, and I have been growing at the speed of light in terms of my knowledge because I love learning, and I know that learning grows my business. I think yet so many business owners, especially in the health space, expect themselves to still market like the very first version of themselves.
But why? Why are you doing that? It doesn’t work. Eventually, like there’s massive cracks, and if you are watching on YouTube, or if this is the the little skit that makes it onto my socials, the like trajectory, like it it the the scales tip, okay, and one becomes heavier than the other, okay, and then that starts to weigh on your shoulders, and that kind of you know carrying the weight of the world really sucks.
So, one of the biggest mistakes that I see a lot is when business owners stay really loyal to an old identity, just because it’s easy, it’s crazy, it works, it fits well, you know, and therefore you’re still using the same language. Pricing is the same. Your offers are the same. Your positioning is the same, even though you’ve completely outgrown it, and the market’s probably outgrown it too.
Okay, it’s like wearing jeans, skinny jeans from 10 years ago, and wondering like why they don’t feel, why they feel uncomfortable because nobody should wear them in the first place. And I saw a picture the other day of I don’t know what brand it was, but they had a model in skinny jeans, and I was like, no. And so they’re obviously on the rack, but that’s a hard stop from me. No. Anyway, yes, we are we we’re outgrowing, you know, those versions of ourselves and wondering why the jeans don’t fit because they’re not meant to fit. Okay, because you’re not the same person anymore, and that’s you know that’s a fact. And I think you know every business should evolve every 12 months. If you are not putting in the work on your business rather than in your business at least once every 12 months, we need to have a chat.
Okay, I’m not asking you to reinvent yourself. I think I’m asking you to get clear. Okay, you’re clearer. Your audiences are clearer. Your ex. Teasers so much better, and so is your confidence a lot stronger. So your standards need to be higher, and you know that reflects how you lead your business. And it might look like changing your niche. It might. It it should look like changing your pricing. It should look like giving your website and you lick a paint. It should look like charging who you work with for your value, okay? And sometimes it might look like changing how you introduce yourself.
Oh my God! If I could tell you the amount of times that I have changed how I introduce myself over the years, it’s probably in the number 15 by now, okay? And for me, like recently, it was fully stepping into the health space because I’d already been working there so much. And I, in full transparency, I have clients that are not in the health space, so I have clients in the tech space as well. I have clients in the procurement space, but mostly I have clients in the health space, and therefore I chose to lean into that space, and also I love it. I love it so much because you know that lives and breathe breathes my own vibes, and you know I think that the alignment it just fits, and when it just fits, everything else becomes easier, and that’s what’s happened.
Okay, because it finally matched who I had become, and I will never say no to a client who is aligned, regardless of the industry. And I love the shit out of my clients so hard. Okay, so I want to ask you something. Just think about it. Has your business outgrown you, or reverse that? Have you outgrown your business? Okay, doesn’t mean that you have to queer. It just means that you have to modify a little bit. Okay, and change.
It’s exciting. Think about how exciting, how exciting, how excited you were when you started your business. Probably so excited, and you were just like a bull out of the gate. And you were, you know, nothing could stop you. You didn’t leave any stone unturned, and that’s just how you you bootstrapped it, right? So I’m trying to get you to harness that same thing and have a little look inside your business at what no longer excites you.
What really excites you is probably not even in existence anywhere that is visible for your your ideal client to see. Okay, have you outgrown it, or has your business outgrown you? Two different questions. Okay, and maybe your messaging feels tired too, and maybe you’re attracting clients that don’t light you up anymore, and so it’s time to get really clear. Okay, are you good at something that doesn’t exist yet in your world?
Okay, maybe you know you’re still introducing yourself as you used to be instead of who you are today, and you can only your audience only see you as that person. And if that’s the case, that’s that’s on you because they’re only able to see what you’re willing to show them. Okay, if you don’t communicate that you’ve grown and that you’ve changed, they’ll never know that you’ve grown. Okay, and there’s things that in my world in the last month that have like, oh my god, massive challenges.
Which once I’ve overcome them, I will definitely share them with you, but not before. Okay, and I think that it makes you stronger. Okay, and you know, I think that I’m in a position. I’m no longer trying to prove that I know marketing. That chapter is completely done. Okay, because I definitely do. I think that now I’m helping businesses make better decisions, and that flows into it. And I’m helping founders think so differently, and I’m helping CEOs build brands that actually matter because they do.
And I’m getting paid to travel for it, okay? Because my clients exist internationally and nationally, outside of where I am, and that’s from me showing up and being visible consistently all the time and evolving and proving that I can do that. Okay, and it feels different. Feels awesome because it is different. I show up differently because I am different. And you know, if someone doesn’t like that version of how quickly I’m growing, and same for you, then bye bye see you later next okay because that is like the the energy and the the feeling and I think that it’s it’s if you’re not going if you don’t like where I’m going in terms of even like how am I trying to how am I going to say this? If if if someone doesn’t like what you’re doing, they can just stop listening, or they can just move on, or they can just find someone that better fits them. Okay, but the world needs what you have to offer in your way. Okay, because what helps.
What helps somebody the way that you’re saying it may not necessarily resonate the way that someone else says it or the way that someone else does it. Okay, I’ll give you a good example. Is I I wear glasses when I’m on the computer, so they are pretty like soft, but they do make a difference, and I don’t wear them any other time. And I said to my mum the other day, “Where do you go to get your eyes checked? Because I haven’t had new glasses since before I had my three children. So I think it’s time that I go and get some new glasses and just you know, because I actually want bigger ones. I want them to look a bit more cool, whatever.
And my mum said to me, “I go to this place, and she told me the name of it, and she said, ‘But don’t see this guy when you go there. He’s the owner, and he likes to talk a lot about stuff that’s not even about your eyes. So make sure you see this person instead, because she’s really, really good. All right. So I think that if that doesn’t tell You like this is the best example, okay? Because when you show up differently, you attract different people, and your energy matches those people. And some people are you for you, and some people aren’t for you. They’re still going to test my eyes the same.
But she said that I would like this person better, winning. Okay, so when you evolve and you realize that you need to step into that person and everything around you needs to level up, the products that you’re selling evolves, your offers evolve, your customer evolves, you take them on the journey with you, messaging evolves, leadership evolves, everything around you evolves, and your business evolves. All right. So here’s my challenge for you: What version of your business are you protecting? Okay, that no longer deserves protecting, and what are you keeping alive because it once worked? Okay, release it because sometimes the next level of your business isn’t waiting for another strategy, it’s waiting for permission to evolve. You’ve got to give yourself that permission. There’s no one that’s going to come knocking on your door.
I’m waiting for you at the airport with my private jet to fly you over to Europe for the summer because you know no, that doesn’t happen. I used to say that to my friends who were, you know, looking to date someone, I’m like, if you’re ready to date, if you’re ready to find your person, you got to put yourself out there. No one’s going to come knocking at your door.
It’s the same in business. Okay, got to go and get it. Okay, so this is exactly what we do inside my VIP strategy days. They are elite intensive days, and we spend an entire day looking at your business through Fresh Eyes. It is a beautiful day. We will refine your offers, sharpen your positioning, simplify your messaging, and identify you know what’s working, what’s not, what needs to go, what needs to stay.
And you know it’s kind of like a permission slip day where you let get to let go of what’s not serving you because your business deserves to grow with you. That is really important. If that’s the message that you take today from listening to this podcast episode, so be it. Okay, don’t keep stuck in the version that you’ve already outgrown.
If you’d love to spend the day with me, send me a DM, and I would love to chat with you, and I would absolutely love to help you map out what the next version of your business looks like. Okay, and that’s it. That’s all I’m going to say today.
Thank you so much for listening. I hope this has fired you up, and I will catch you next week for another episode of the Hayley Osborne Show.
