Ambition is part of who I am, BUT over time this has shifted. The intensity has faded and it’s known about the integration. I’m a multitude of things and I’m proud to do it all. My energy shifts to where it needs to be the most from day to day and I think that’s a pretty wonderful skill.
This week is the start of International Women’s Day and month and I’m breaking down in this episode of The Hayley Osborne Show what I know about how the most powerful women do it all.
In this episode, I share what leadership looks like now compared to what many of us were shown growing up, and why I believe we’re living in the era of integrated ambition. If you’re a woman building something meaningful, especially in health and wellness, this episode is your reminder:
You don’t have to choose between ambition and alignment. This is the era of integrated ambition.

Hayley Osborne
Hello and a very warm welcome back to the podcast. I am really happy to be here for another week in your ears, and this week is a little bit different, which is exciting, because I wanted to talk about the era of integrated ambition, and in the wake of International Women’s Day, which is coming up very soon, this week, I’ll be attending an event.
It really made me stop and reflect as I planned out my own content, as I planned out client’s strategy, and it made me really think about myself and how my ambition looks as a woman, and what I think about when I think about International Women’s Day and having stopped and reflected and really thought about it, I think it’s not just about a massive celebration. I think it’s been an evolution, really. And it, you know, is the same as myself over the years. And I think what I used to think about International Women’s Day, I don’t really think about it. I don’t think the same anymore. And, you know, I’ve stood on lots of different stages over the years.
And I mean, I’m talking about physical stages. So not just this stage where, you know, I’m in your ears as the podcast host, but I’ve stood on them at nine months pregnant as a female, you know, working woman. And I remember that very, very vividly, because about five days later, I gave birth. I don’t know what I was thinking. Then it’s a funny story.
So if you are new here, yes, I did that. I was asked to speak at a women in business event, and it was the covid time and the event I said yes to get postponed. And the date that it got postponed to was right before I was about to give birth to my first child. So I had, you know, tweaked and edited what I was going to say in my keynote, and it was all very, like, polished and awesome. And then I got on stage, and there were about 300 people in the room, and I didn’t account for the fact that, you know, you know, everybody gets a little bit nervous. I’m pretty good at disguising that, I suppose, these days, but I didn’t account for my lack of lung capacity, and I just sort of couldn’t breathe.
And I couldn’t breathe as it was because, you know, hello, baby was taking up most of that space. So that was a really funny experience. I’ve stood on stage not pregnant. I have been on stage again, five months pregnant, and through those moments, you know, I kept showing up, I kept bleeding, even though, you know, my body was changing and I was doing different things, and it wasn’t perfect. And you know, it made me realize that there is not one fixed version of myself. And that, to me, is evolution.
And I think that to me is like what I want to talk about today in terms of, like the era of integrated ambition, and that means doing all the things and leadership looks really different now to me than what it did then. And you know, I think it looks really different to what we were shown growing up. And I think that for a long time, success and power meant, like, more hours, more output, more visible effort. And I think that as me, ambitions been a massive part of who I am and achieving great things, and always like going over and above and bending over backwards, but I think over time now, things have shifted a little bit, and I think that type of ambition and that intensity has faded, and I’m okay with that, and what it’s replaced is integration.
And I realized that I don’t have to be like one thing at a time, and I think that I am a multitude of things, and I’m proud to absolutely do it all. And I think that as Yeah, as we are celebrating the month of International Women’s Day, I think females generally do it all. And I think that we need to be really mindful that we’re not living in that bro era of bro business and just bro corporate, and that that whole bro stereotype, it’s not more hours, more output, more visible effort, like who’s doing more? It’s different, okay?
And I think that I am proud to do it all, and it’s a fusion, right? Some days my energy is in my business. Some days it’s with my children. Some days it’s in my body, and some days it’s in creative strategy, right? My energy shifts to where it needs to be most, and that’s where I let it go, and that’s how I get a lot of questions like, how do you do what you do? How do you have time to do all the things? And I think that’s the answer. My energy shifts to where it needs to go. And to me, that’s really powerful to be able to do that. And I think over the years that I’ve mastered the art of this, not through, like an instant thing, but it’s been like a long time in practice.
So today, I run a business, yes, and I do work with health and wellness, business owners, practitioners, clinic owners, who change people’s lives. I raise children. I raise my three children. I train my body hard. And those of you that follow me on Instagram know that I’m always moving my body in some way, shape or form. I protect my time like, you know I’m this is just a little hack, like I can’t do more than one thing over the weekend, like I won’t be going out Friday night and Saturday night and Sunday night.
I have to say, no, I can know if I get an invitation to something, it is one thing, and then I need time to rest on the other nights and I and that doesn’t always happen, so sometimes I’m home all weekend, and I think that’s really important about protecting your time and that’s really powerful. And to me, that’s what power actually looks like. And I’ve learned something really important, but the most powerful women, they’re not that loud. Okay, they’re clear. They’re really clear on what they want, and they know what they stand for, and they know what they’re building, and they build it in a way that supports their life.
And if you’re thinking, oh, that sounds so good, it sounds like everyone’s got it together, no, but that’s not what I’m saying, Have a think about yourself. And I think you are probably doing this, you just haven’t actually put the crown on your own head yet to be like, Yeah, I am actually really powerful in my own world, okay, but I’m not the loudest, and that’s okay, because I’m not the loudest either, but I am very clear. So if that’s one thing that you don’t have at the moment, is clarity and being really clear, you know, I think, have a sit back and look at what you have a think about what that looks like. It’s a blend. And the power does look like running your business, raising your children, training your body, and protecting your time.
And if you don’t have children, then you know, doing whatever else it is you do, playing golf, you know, if you have, if you’re, you’re a dog mum or a cat, mom, like, those things are important, okay? And those things bring you power, and it’s important that you are showing up in your full capacity in those areas of your life, and that you are clear, because clarity is power. Standards are power integration of all the things that you do, and what makes you is power. And that’s what I think power actually looks like. And let’s reel it back to actually.
You know, in the health industry, especially, I see women so much with so much extraordinary expertise, they have worked so hard to get where they are. And it’s not just doing like a year of study. This is sometimes like four or five years of study, and then you actually have to build up the hours to be able to practice what you preach, brilliant practitioners, highly trained professionals and women. And this is, you know, if you’re a man, that’s cool. You’re listening to this. This is about International Women’s Day, this topic. So, you know, the powerful women in your lives, then you can think, you know, yes, they are doing it all.
And I think, where was I? I got myself sidetracked with, you know, throwing in that, if you’re a man, you’re listening to this. But you know, these things take time to build up. So, you know, I think highly trained professionals and you know, women who help others regulate, who heal, who strength, to strengthen and help other people recover.
I see a lot of them not standing in their own power and standing with a bit of hesitation, but I think that hesitation in the form of charging appropriately, or being a bit hesitant to lead more visibly, or being a bit more hesitant to set strong standards. And I think I saw this as well not too long ago, when I asked somebody what they did. They said, I help my husband’s business and I just do the paperwork.
And I was like, you don’t just, I didn’t say this, but you don’t just. Us doing that like that is a big deal. You are pretty much like the neck that holds the head in place with what you do. And I know that’s digressing from health and wellness, but you don’t, you’re not just whatever it is, okay. And I think that International Women’s Day for me is really about changing that narrative.
And I think it is about women stepping into that authority, and women in health stepping into that authority, because you are extraordinary in what you do. It’s taken years and years of training and practice for you to get where you are, and so I think that you need to wear that crown, and I think wear that authority piece, and I think being well profitability isn’t about ego, it’s more sustainability. And I think when women are building wealth intentionally and they are creating stability for their families, whether that be their kids or their parents or their siblings and the communities then the next and you know, the next generation are watching you.
That is powerful and that is okay to have that integrated ambition, which is what this episode is all about. And I think this is definitely the era of that. It’s not chaotic ambition. It’s integrated. It’s not bro, that whole bro corporate hat, the bro marketing, it’s softer than that. And I think that it’s blended, because I don’t think, I don’t think we’re living in an age where we need to choose whether we are a mother, a leader, whether we’re strong, whether we’re quiet, whether we’re visible, whether we’re a bit more behind the scenes, whether we’re present. I think that we can be all of it at the same time, and that’s okay.
You don’t need to choose. And I think when women lead this way, in particular, I think it changes the standard, okay? It changes the standard across the industry. It changes the standard for our children; we are role models. It changes the standard for our peers. It just changes the standard. Okay? So you can be all of it. And I think as I head into this week and attend some international, International Women’s Day events, I’m not thinking about the hype, that’s for sure. I’m thinking about how it’s evolved, and how far we’ve come, and how far I’ve come as a woman in business.
You know, I started my business seven or eight years ago now, and who I was then to where I am now is so different. I have come such a long way, and I think about how powerful it is when women stop shrinking themselves and start leading with more clarity, and start leading clearly. So if you are a woman building something right now, especially in the health and wellness space, I hope that this episode and what I’ve had to say reminds you that you don’t need to be louder. You need to be clearer. Okay, this is your era, and it is the era of integrated ambition. Thank you so much for listening today.
