Hello friends, I hope you are well and happy and healthy. Welcome to another episode of The Hayley Osborne Show. I’m Hayley and I am so glad you’re here. This is episode 61.
I am just coming off the back of the Easter long weekend here in Australia when this episode is out and I am feeling refreshed and revived and very excited about the future. There are some beautiful things playing out for my brand which I cannot wait to share with you. But I will leave that for another episode. I really want to share a win’s episode with you so you can be inspired by what is also possible for you.
But today I wanted to give you permission to set yourself some healthy boundaries, especially when it comes to your social media.
As a side note, at the start of this year I removed all the emails from my phone. I deleted the whole app and my gosh it felt good. What prompted me to do this though was not a ripping the band aid off quickly type thing, no, it wasn’t like that because of something I had seen somewhere or someone doing.
I simply kept getting these alerts about having to put my password in and I would do that, and it would take me to another screen about a school or personal account and I never knew which one to pick as I don’t handle my emails and so on and so forth. So, I thought to myself, well maybe, just maybe I need to delete the app and restart from scratch. Username and password type stuff. So, I did. I deleted it. Then I must have gotten distracted by a meeting, or a phone call and I never got around at that specific time to adding the app back on my phone. So, I didn’t.
I thought I’d test myself and just not add it back on my phone. Maybe it was a bit of “let’s see how long I can do this” type stuff. Turns out, I just left it off and that’s how I set healthy email boundaries for myself. I can say it’s the best. I am more in the moment. Not tempted to check anything as they’re just not there and emails can never be that urgent that they can’t wait.
Because of this, I have started adding in social media boundaries into my life as well so I can be super present with my life, which I love. It’s important to me to be there for my life and to never miss a single thing.
Having a balance is important.
Having self-control is important.
And then there’s having self-control on social media that is the most important limit you can set on yourself. How many times have you scrolled into the social media abyss only to realise half an hour has gone by? So bad right, which is why we need to set healthy social media boundaries so it’s not sucking you up and spitting you out. Instead, you are using it for good. To connect. To engage and build trust among your audience. Not to mindless scroll.
- Set time limits to engage
- Put your phone away in the morning and the afternoon
- Don’t look at your phone for the first hour of the day and the last hour of the day
- Create everything you need to for the week ahead for your social media BEFORE you consume
- Respect your needs outside of social media
